Kilmuir is an historic sheep and cattle property, five minutes drive from Mansfield. Eighty acres was purchased at the first auction of Mansfield farmland on June 7, 1854, for one pound per acre. Over the following 130 years, purchase of adjoining land saw the property grow to over a thousand acres.

 

A considerable workforce was employed to work on the property. Many of those men and some of their families lived at Kilmuir in workers’ cottages. Kilmuir Country Retreat was originally the shearer's quarters.

 

The cottage has recently been extensively renovated and updated with modern conveniences. It provides a relaxing and unique holiday experience, in the charm and historic setting of yesteryear.
